How often must I renew my CGC certification?

The period of certification is two years for NCGs and three years for NMGs. You must submit your application for recertification no less than 30 days prior to the expiration of your current certification term.

What are the CGC requirements for continuing education?

National Certified Guardians must have participated in at least 20 hours (30 hours for National Master Guardians) of continuing education and guardianship training as approved by the applicant’s state guardianship association and/or by the CGC. The 20 hours must be completed during the period since certification or most recent recertification. Click here for CEU information.

Inactive/Emeritus Status

If you are not currently working as a guardian but will return to the guardian profession, you may preserve your certification by applying for Inactive status and paying a discounted application fee. You will need to meet certain requirements to return to active status. Retired guardians who wish to retain their certification while no longer actively practicing as a guardian may apply for Emeritus status.
